Assistant Chief Tom Aumck
Assistant Fire Chief Tom Aumock has been a career firefighter/EMT with the City of Port Townsend Fire Department since 1981, after serving as Assistant County Planning Director for Jefferson County for almost eight years, where he was the primary writer of the first two editions of the Jefferson County Shoreline Management Master Program, including regulatory documents in land-use and environmental protection.
Firefighter Aumock has been an emergency services instructor, developed a fire and life safety public education program that was adopted into the local school district’s education curriculum, and developed the fire services mentorship program with the local school district. He was appointed Fire Lieutenant in 1993, Assistant Fire Chief in 1994, and held the position of Acting Fire Chief for the Department for two years in 2000.
Asst. Chief Aumock was successful in grant writing which led to new fire equipment for the department, and grant funding for a new fire station. He was the primary researcher and writer for the City of Port Townsend insurance classification for the Washington State Surveying and Rating Bureau, and is currently writing a homeowner’s recovery guidebook as an adjunct to the NFPA manual “After the Fire is Out”, with author James Daniels. Asst. Chief Aumock is currently assigned as the Fire Code Official for both the City of Port Townsend and Jefferson County, Washington.
Asst. Chief Aumock holds a bachelors degree in Urban Planning from the University of Washington with a minor in Architecture. He is a longstanding member of the International Association of Fire Investigators, and ex-officio member of the Washington State Association of Certified Building Designers.
